Kristina Gillmeister

Anne Arundel County Public Schools
STEM Coordinator
Kristina Gillmeister is a seriously curious woman who has traveled her life path with an infectious enthusiasm and passion for experiential STEM education from cradle to career. She capitalizes on the idea of revolutionary imagination to create dynamic educational worlds unbounded by the school building, the time of day, or life’s circumstances. Growing up on the lakes of upstate NY fused her natural creativity with tenacious industriousness giving her the powerful ability to take an idea from conception to reality. Kristina received her B.S. in Chemistry and her M.S. in School Improvement Leadership from Goucher College and is currently a doctoral candidate in the Science Education program at SUNY Buffalo, completing her thesis in early childhood conceptions of systems thinking. She has built a network of partnerships with business & industry, higher education, community organizations, and K-12 stakeholders to enable true systemic change in the public school system, reflective of a world in need of 21st century changemakers. Her colleagues have been known to affectionately refer to her as “Tinkerbell” because she has a keen knack for capturing the magic and wonder of childhood in everything she touches. Kristina has been a nominee for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math & Science Teaching and is currently the STEM Coordinator for Anne Arundel County Public Schools in Maryland.
