Sarah Hemminger is a social entrepreneur, scientist, and co-founder of Thread, a non-profit that leverages the power of relationships to support exceptional young people facing significant opportunity and achievement gaps. Sarah has almost two decades of experience in the development, expansion, and replication of an innovative, paradigm-shifting model that has led to exemplary outcomes for young people and a deeply knitted community of thousands of diverse individuals in Baltimore. This work fuels her belief that building strong relationships across lines of difference can end social isolation and weave a more equitable social fabric to improve educational, economic and health outcomes. Despite an average incoming GPA of 0.79, Thread’s students graduate from high school at ten times the rate of their peers. Sarah is also an adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Johns Hopkins and serves as the Board Chair of Thrive, a for-profit technology company.
