Will Byrne is the Co-Founder of Groundswell, an award-winning organization that's disrupting business-as-usual to make socially conscious goods and services affordable and accessible to all people. In recent years, he has been named to Forbes's 30 Under 30 List, received the White House Champions of Change honor, elected an Ashoka Fellow, and selected as one of the World Economic Forum's Global Shapers. He has been a featured speaker at Duke Sanford School of Public Policy and NYU Stern's Business School, and his writing has appeared in Forbes and FastCompany. After graduating from Vassar College and a stint as a journalist in Berlin, Germany, Will joined the early stages of the first Obama campaign. It was there that he learned the transformative online and offline community organizing tactics that would change his life. With a deep passion for equal opportunity and environmental sustainability, Will decided not to follow his colleagues into the Obama administration, opting instead to apply what he'd learned to expand access to clean energy to all communities. Along the way, through trial and error and the insight of community leadership, he developed a new way of doing business that puts social impact first and delivers economic opportunity for all people. He calls it Civic Consumption. After demonstrating the disruptive power of civic consumption in clean energy and community economic development sectors as coFounder and CEO of Groundswell, Will is now exploring how Civic Consumption can be used to address a broader range of today's most pressing social issues, focusing on empowering people to use their everyday purchasing decisions to improve our world.
